Interfaith Celebrations

The most recent cultural event was held at the Maidenhead Town Hall to celebrate the diverse and wonderful aspects of each of our faiths.

Cultural Celebration
The event took place on 28 February 2004 at the Maidenhead Town Hall.

The event celebrated the diversity and richness of eight faiths in Maidenhead, showing what can be achieved when the faiths work together as one. It provided a rare and exciting opportunity to sample the sights, sounds and tastes of the faiths and to discover more about the faiths within the community.

The Interfaith Celebration took place on 28 February 2004 at the Maidenhead Town Hall.

It was divided into two parts, the Displays and the Entertainment:

The Displays

The first part, the "Displays", was open to the general public. Over five hundred people joined us from all walks of life.

Each of the participating faiths hosted a Display Stand to introduce the thinking and beliefs of the faith. Each stand had people to talk to about the faith. People came to watch from a distance and others came up to talk to the people at the stand to understand for discussions and explanations about the faith.

The Entertainment

The specatular "Entertainment" section offered the sights and sounds of the cultures that weave within the faith groups.

The "Food" offering involved the faith groups providing foods associated with their culture. Several of the faith groups share cultures with others, and prepared joint dishes.

The menu included a vast array of dishes, from Chickpea curry to smoked salmon bagels, from the Northern African Cous Cous to the savory Eastern European Piroski pasteries. A wide range of deserts was also provided.

The pure "Entertainment" followed. Many of the faith groups put on an entertainment display that related to their culture. As with the Food section, several of the faith groups combined to produce a spectacular show. Contributions ranged from singing and dancing to special poetry, from a drums concert to a live rock concert.
