Afghan crisis

Generous Maidonians donated almost 600 (exact amount raised 579.71) to the Red Cross Afghan Crisis fund. The money was collected after the Maidenhead Together event held outside the Town Hall, which included prayers for peace from Christian, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh traditions, and candle-lighting by Maidenhead children.

It is a great witness to the power of active Inter Faith dialogue that we can organise an event like this, have it so well attended by people from the various faith groups in town, and raise money for a such a worthy cause. said Rev John Swarbrick, chairman of Maidenhead Inter Faith Group.

Ash Hussain, who worships at Maidenhead Mosque and helped organise the event said It is wonderful to see all of the faith groups working collaboratively to provide aid for the innocent victims of the war in Afghanistan. It helps display the common bonds of love and care for fellow man, which cuts through perceived boundaries.

Donating money to the Afghan Crisis Appeal could not be easier. The British Red Cross shop at the top of Maidenheads High Street has a special button on the till which directs money to the fund. The shop manageress, Lesley Gardener said Anyone wishing to donate can simply come into during normal shop hours. We can accept cash or cheque. The Red Cross ensures that the money is used where it is needed most in Afghanistan, as the harsh winter sets in.
