Shared Faith 2008
|
We are delighted to continue the Faith groups of Maidenhead, developed in 2007, set out below, to allow us to share our faiths and values with each other.
This program is designed for members of the faith communities of Maidenhead to meet together and to discuss each of our respective faiths.
The strength of interfaith relations depends on how well members of our respective faith groups meet and understand each other. So we are strongly encouraging anyone who is interested to learn a little more of the values of our respective faiths to come along to any or all of the meetings.
Prayers for World Peace Sunday 19 October : 3:00pm Christian Science Church 1 Marlow Road , Maidenhead, SL6 7AE
An Interfaith Service in Maidenhead will be held as part of the "Week of Prayer for World Peace : 2008". The service is open to all : children are particularly welcome.
The programme is on the theme of peace, drawing upon the sacred scriptures and teachings of the diverse faith communities in Maidenhead. It involves prayers, poems, songs and other spiritual inspiration to be shared by all.
Each faith group will spend around 10 minutes contributing to the service. The service will revolve around a candle surrounded by barbed wire (the Amnesty logo) as a central symbol. Representatives of each faith community will be invited to take a candle which they can light at the end of the event from the central candle to signify sharing the wisdom and light of faith with their own community.
Confirmed contributions will come from Christian, Baha'i, Hindu, Jewish and Sikh groups. We are awaiting confirmation from Muslim, Brahma Kumari and Buddhist groups.
The service will be followed by refreshments to allow those attending to meet others afterwards.
The event is inspired by a national interfaith event: nfpb.gn.apc.org/prayer
William Tyndale : Voice of the English Bible David Matthews Tuesday 18th March : 7.30pm Christian Science Church - 1 Marlow Road , Maidenhead, SL6 7AE Information: pat@lakovic.co.uk or 01628 782038 Web : www.csmaidenhead.co.uk
This fascinating, free program is open to the General Public. Details are set out below, with contact details for anyone wanting to come along.
The talk will show how our modern English language, culture and religion owes much to the first English translation of the Bible from the original Greek and Hebrew texts by William Tyndale, almost five hundred years ago. It's a moving story of great poetic genius who gave his life to present a Bible comprehensible to all, even today. The talk includes readings of Tyndale's translations and other writings which touch the hear with their beauty and love for mankind.
David Matthews is an architect living in Windermere. He belongs to the Tyndale Society and has given talks in the USA, Canada and the UK to Christian, mixed faith group and literary conferences.
Future Topics The Maidenhead InterFaith meetings are open to people of all faiths, and none, seeking truth and understanding. They provide an open forum for learning, enquiry and scholarship. The spirit of these events will always be respect, courtesy and fellowship.
