How we can help

The needs of the Ban Laem Pom Villagers are enormous and immediate. The monsoons are imminent. The Villagers are living in flimsy tents that will not provide adequate protection agains the rains.

The villagers have lost all possessions and tools. Most of them have lost family members, in such traumatic circumstances, that we can only imagine how difficult their mental state must be.

In the long-term, we hope to provide help to the Villagers to recommence work. In the short term, we are seeking to help the with housing and shelter.

Fund raising

We are seeking to raise 20,000. This should provide houses for arond 10% of the Villagers. We already have some funds pledged. Our immediate target is to encourage 100 people, organisations or groups each to donate 100 to the Villagers. We are hoping to find the difference from a number of fund-raising initiatives in progress.

If you are able to help, either by donating 100 yourself, or by organising a group to jointly donate this amount, or by contributing more or less towards our overall total, please donate using the donations page. Any help you can give will go entirely to the Villagers.

School trips

We are organising for school leavers to get together to visit the village to help the villagers with their rebuilding efforts. We anticipate the help needed is digging and building in the village, and volunteer work at the Orphanage. The specific help needed will depend on the timing it is provided.

Details will appear here shortly regarding this initiative.

Sale of Batik

The Villagers encouraged their children to "draw" their experiences of the Tsunami as a theraputic exercise. We were surprised at the quality of the batik produced. We have encouraged the Village to sell the batik, their paintings on soft fabric, to help raise funds for their Orphanage. We are selling batik for 15 each. Anyone wanting to buy a piece should send a cheque, payable to "Gil Poulos Memorial Trust re Tsunami Relief" to Maidenhead Interfaith, PO Box 2382, Slough PDO, SL1 8WD. All monies paid for the batik will be paid directly to the Villagers. Don't forget to include an address for delivery of the batik. They make a sensational present. To ensure there are no taxes due on the sale, the sale contract is with the Maidenhead Interfaith group who have convenanted all such funds directly to the Village, via the registered charity. Cheques are made payable to the charity simply to ensure that no charges are made along the way.
